Institutes offering integrated MS in India
First of all, a question- What is the difference between doing an MS and MSc? Most of us fail to answer it. I would like to recall something that an IISERian said about it: ” Doing an MS saves space and time. You don’t have to spend an extra second to write a ‘c’ after ‘MS’ and you can save that space”. Well, that is the best answer you will get regarding this. MS and MSc are almost the same things. MSc in India is called as MS abroad. Sometimes, when you go abroad for Ph.D., they may ask for an equivalence certificate for MS and MSc. But, there are few differences between integrated MS/MSc courses offered by various institutes which you will come to know soon.

Institutes offering integrated MS (BS-MS) in India

1. IISc Bangalore

IISc Bangalore offers a 4-year long Bachelor of Science (Research) program, of which final year is completely dedicated to research. However, getting admission in IISc Bangalore is very difficult than you expect- it is difficult than getting admission to the top IITs. Let me say why:Admission to IISc Bangalore is through all India level exams. i.e, AIPMT, JEE Main, JEE Advanced and KVPY. Do you know the cutoff marks (at least to dream admission to IISc- cut off for spot admission ) set by IISc for UG admission?

The cut off marks for AIPMT candidates is 600(General), 390(OBC-NCL, SC), 216(ST), 362( KM, PH).

The cutoff marks in JEE Main is 325(Gen), 250(OBC-NCL), 220(SC), 108(ST), 250(KM) and 140(PH).

The cutoff ranks for JEE Advanced under Common Rank List are 26(Gen), 1082(OBC NCL, KM, PH), 1200(SC), 12500(ST).

Now you know why getting admission in IISc is tougher than getting admission in IITs.

Is IISc better than IISER for BS programme?

    ADMIN

    Hi Sabin,
IISc is better than IISERs for BS programme. Some students in IISERs try to get into IISc through KVPY stream.
IISERs were built just before 10 years and IISc bangalore was built one century ago. The brand name that IISc has in international level, will help you get admission to top international universities easily. Remember that IISc is far better than IITs and IISERs in almost all rankings published so far.

    Thank You.
